Let’s Make Peach Ice Cream

You guys, I made ice cream. Like, for real. I couldn’t believe it.

Let’s back up to why this is such a big deal. For the first 22-ish years of my life I was a born and bred city girl who didn’t even know homemade ice cream was a thing. Seriously, I thought you had to go buy it. Who knew?

Second, while I have become a really good cook, my baking and dessert skills have always lacked. I love the ability to just throw things together and make dinner. But baking is more of a science and that has never been my strength so I was nervous about where ice cream would fall in that spectrum.

For our wedding I did what every bride does and registered for a KitchenAid stand mixer. Will’s uncle got it for us because he “loves all the goodies she seems to make every time I am in town.” Will’s only requirement for me registering for it was that we also register for the ice cream maker attachment. Ok, let’s keep in mind his mother is a total southern belle who still makes homemade ice cream every summer in a super old ice cream maker that still requires rock salt! And it is delicious. So these are big shoes to fill.

But last weekend we went to the Farmer’s Market to get peaches and I set about finding a recipe to make my very first batch of ice cream. Cue the stress!

But it was seriously so easy! We have been snacking on it all week and loving it. I can’t believe how easy it was and how delicious it was! If I can do it, anyone can. And if you have a stand mixer, or are registering for one soon then get the ice cream attachment. It is totally worth it! Ok here we go with the recipe.

Ingredients
5 soft, ripe peaches – peeled and chopped
¾ c sugar
1 can evaporated milk
1 can sweetened condensed milk
3 cups half and half
1 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Make sure you have the ice cream bowl attachment in the freezer for at least 15 hours. I kept mine in the freezer for 24 hours. It definitely makes a different.
  2. Puree peaches in food processor or with stick blender. I used the stick blender we also got for our wedding and it was super easy. I left mine a little chunky because we like fruit chunks in our ice cream but make yours as smooth as you want.
  3. Blend sugar, evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, half and half and heavy cream. Add peach puree.
  4. Chill mixture in the freezer for about 15 minutes.
  5. Attach ice cream bowl and start the mixer. It is important to have it moving before pouring in the ice cream mixture so it doesn’t freeze to the bottom immediately and cause a jam.
  6. Pour chilled mixture in to ice cream bowl and church for 20 to 30 minutes. IMG_5834
  7. Transfer to storage container and put in freezer until ready to eat!

See wasn’t that easy! I originally stored mine in a loaf pan because it was all I had. But then I found these super cute ice cream containers at Sur La Table and they are perfect!

Ok, now that I have made my first batch I am excited to experiment. What ice cream recipes and flavors do you love?

Those ice cream containers are ADORABLE!!!!
I love they have fresh peaches in it – that makes me want to do all sorts of fruity ice creams.
But you gotta try a chocolate or caramel one next ,right? 🙂

  2. Yum! I LOOOOOOOOOVE homemade ice cream and peaches and summer jut go together. I don’t make ice cream at home because there would be no stopping me, but my mom makes a couple of batches a week during the summer (and she loves the kitchenaid attachment too!) I am going to request this for sure!
